I'd say bad luck,..in Great Britain, black cats are a symbol of good luck, did nothing good happen during that time? The Scottish believe that a strange black cat's arrival to the home signifies prosperity. Now in your particular instance that signified a cat who should have been kept inside as letting your cat be an outdoor cat will shorten its lifespan in the majority of cases. I can personally vouch for that as when I was younger I lived in a trailer and let my cat run free during the day and it was hit by a motorcycle; looking back I never should have had the cat in the first place, as I had very little money and cats are expensive to take care of properly. I wish more people would do the most important thing for their cats and get them fixed, then my mom wouldn't have to work 80 hours a week at kittenresq.net and could actually relax during her retirement.

dear uncle ken......... rest assured that your posts are being received on this end via email. i aplogize for not being more vigilant in my responses and acknowledging receipt. i've been working no less than 7 days a week, basically for pennies, because i am once again laid off hahaha. i still do skim through my email when i have the opportunity, and have had the pleasure of reading each and every post, and always look forward to the next one. I/we send all of our love and you are both in our prayers. thank you both for being such huge parts of my life, especially positive aspects when there was such negativity surrounding me. love you.

YAY! Email is working again. I was a little sad that I saw on FB that you had written a new post, but that I didn't get an email. I thought maybe you had "cleared" your email requesters to only those you liked. :)

One observation and one question.

I thought Balley was a human until you started talking about oats.

Lyman has a restaurant?

Hope you're feeling better. Look forward to installment #2.

Sandra H.

Interesting writing, fun read. Although I think your story about the name of Cabbage Hill is truckers lore. Our history shows it was named that as the residence that lived up there in the area known as Poverty Flats grew lots of cabbage and brought them down the hill to town to sell. The locals therefore applied the name Cabbage Hill.
